Updated: Dec 2, 2022

The Circle Drill

Distance: 7 yards

Target: 8 inch circle

Rounds Needed: 18 rounds

Start Position: From the Holster

Three Strings of Fire

String1: Draw and fire six rounds into 8 inch circle with a one second cadence in between each shot.

String2: Draw and fire six rounds into 8 inch circle with a half second cadence in between each shot.

String3: Draw and fire six rounds into 8 inch circle with a quarter second cadence in between each shot or as fast as possible while still being safe

This drill was created by George Harris. He is a co-founder of the Sig Sauer Academy and also a field editor for Shooting Illustrated magazine. The goal of this drill is to keep all of the shots within the eight inch circle. This drill will also show you your accuracy capability with the three different speeds. This will be valuable information as you will learn when can afford to throttle the speed up or when you will need to back your speed off in order to make your hits. This will also help build confidence as you will see how quick your cadence of fire can be while still getting good hits. Remember to keep an even cadence between shots. This shows consistency of your grip, trigger press, sight picture and other fundamentals. If you are not able to keep an even cadence at first, slow it down. An uneven cadence shows inconsistencies in one or more of your fundamentals. This is usually a grip issue or trigger press issue. Also, to change the drill up, you can try it single-handed only with dominant hand or support hand.

Enjoy the drill and have a great weekend!
