The Primary and Secondary podcasts is always a good podcast to listen to for deep conversations on diverse topics relating to LE, military and armed citizen issues. Episode 416 is no different with a panel including Chris Cypert, Doug Deaton, Warren Wilson and of course, the host Matt Landfair.
This topic of conversation was avoidable outcomes. Just the name piqued my interest. When I got into the podcast, it did not disappoint. The panel talked about everything from avoidance and deescalation to how emotional control is needed when you react with lethal force.
Here are some of the points I found particularly interesting. I have put in the minute marker to make the searchable in the podcast, as it is quite long.
49:30 (my bad 20)
This is a conversation about having cash to make things better. If you have some disposable cash as "social lubricant" you may be able to get out of a situation that is degrading.
1:01:30 (ambiguous scenarios)
This section dealt situations in which you insert yourself without having all the information. It is quite graphic, but the example has to deal with a hypothetical person involved in a legal shooting that might be morally unjust.
1:20:00 (risk mitigation)
In lieu of having to use your defensive tools, the panel addresses how to keep yourself safer through everyday tasks and awareness.
1:38:00 (legal vs illegal rounds)
This section deals with the idea that you can be perfectly justified in one situation but not in the next. It further cuts to the difference in how the situation evolves. As Chris Cypert puts it, "you can fire justifiable rounds, followed by manslaughter rounds, followed by first degree murder rounds" all in the space of seconds.
1:44:00 (grand juries)
The final not I had had to do with grand juries. Few know the intricacies of picking juries, but the procedure of the grand jury is known even less. Understanding how evidence is presented, and what that particular proceeding goes is important.
Listen and enjoy! You can find this podcast on most platforms.
