RULE 3: "KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOU ARE READY TO FIRE"
Rule 3 is fairly self explanatory, much like rule number two. The trigger is the mechanical switch that fires the gun, so stay away from it until you are ready to shoot.
People can sometimes get trapped in the desire for mechanical safeties on the gun. Mechanical safeties should absolutely be present, but the requirements are the the gun doesn't go off until the trigger is pressed, and that it will not go off if it is dropped. Other safeties have more to do with training and support gear than they do with shooters safety.
We are the safety, the mechanics of the gun do not matter. The safety of keeping your finger off the trigger unless you are actively firing is a habit that must be developed.
