Melody Lauer is the owner of Citizens Defense Research, and is one of the key instructors. Melody has been a firearms instructor for over a decade and has developed a very specific curriculum designed to help families become more safe.

Melody has taught the Armed Parent/Guardian class for years, and has developed the training out of the lack of family specific training. He search for this came from the birth of her own children and her desire to be as effective as she could be in protecting them. When she looked for a class on how to deal with a threat with a small child in her arms, or a toddler in tow, she found nothing.

Next she looked deeper into executive protection, but colleagues and violent events on video told her that there was something missing. She then developed a theory that perhaps instead of putting your body in front of the child, the best course of action could be to get your child as far away as possible. This is predicated on the belief that the child is not as likely to be the direct target of the attack as in bodyguard work. Video proved this theory likely correct, and her flagship class has become the standard in family defensive training.

As a person, Lauer is truly kind and caring. While she has a true command of the range and the ability to impart the seriousness of the training, it is evident that her goal, deep within her, is to see less tragedies happen to families. She has voiced that we all need to be prepared, but don't let your that worry get in the way of living a fulfilling life.
