The Breek Arms Sledgehammer is in most ways a lot like any other ambidextrous charging handle. It has large latches and unlocks from both sides. But the Sledgehammer has an extra few features for the suppressor crowd: it directs gas to the right side of the gun.
I really thought that the gas features would not be all that impressive. My main reason for purchasing this charging handle is to have a good charging handle. But I was pleasantly surprised when I could literally see the gas leaking out the right side of the charging handle versus the back of the charging handle (right under my nose).
Suppressed firearms generally get pretty bad at the back end due to the suppressor stopping the gasses and forcing them back thought the barrel and AR-15 gas tube. This gas is directed rearward, and it can be somewhat choking for the shooter. This charging handle limits some of those issues by directing the gasses to the right.
This is not without its own issues though. For instance, left handers will be negatively impacted: it is really not an option for left handers. Likewise, if you switch to the support side as a right hander, for a left side barricade or doorway, you will also get the full effect of the redirected gasses.
So, while this piece of equipment is very useful, it can also be a detriment for some.
Check it out, it may be useful for you!
Be well, and be safe.
