Drill: Pistol IQ Standards

The Pistol IQ standards is the brainchild of Riley Bowman. It incorporates time standards, accuracy, speed and transitions. The final raw score can be run through a calculator to give you your "IQ".

All drills begin from the holster.

Accuracy:

The drill begins with the good old half "test". 5 shots on a B8 at 10 yards within 5 seconds. Simple, but remember it is scored, so be sure to use the time given.

Draw:

Second, a simple 2 round from the draw. At the signal, draw and fire 2 rounds into the A Zone of a USPSA target l. Distance is 7 yards.

Recoil:

Nest is the Bill Drill. Draw and fire 6 rounds into the A Zone as fast as you can at 7 yards. Simple Simon.

Transition:

Draw and fire 2 rounds into the first USPSA A Zone, transition to the second A Zone for 2 shots, then go back to the first for the final 2 shots. All from the 7 yard line.

Throttle:

For this one, you need an A Zone, A 3x5 card and a business card. At the signal, draw and fire 2 shots into each target in any order you wish. Agqin, the distance is 7 yards.

Scoring:

The scoring is based on the hits and the time and is much easier to just run through Rileys software on the website. Remember, you are competing against yourself, so keep at it to see improvement. The total invested is only 25 rounds, so it should be easy to work into your range routine.
