Aaron Cowan is the owner and operator of Sage Dynamics, a training company based out of Tennessee. His YouTube and Patreon presence are what he is well known for, but his instruction is top notch as well.
I recently attended the Sage Dynamics Red Dot Pistol Instructor course. Aaron is very professional, as well as very studious. His material is incredibly well researched and vetted through his network and personal experience. For instance, his research on red dot durability is compiled in his "RDS White Paper", available on his website.
In the classroom, Aaron moves fast. His command of the information is amazing, barely needing to use a reference guide to explain the information. His presentation is very well structured from the historical references to the modern cases he leans on for supporting his view that red dots are a superior sighting tool. He welcomes questions and has a relaxed classroom setting that feels like a conversation at times.
On the range, Aaron keeps you working throughout the entire class. He is big on repetition at distance, meaning that many drills was performed at 3 yards, but them moved to 5, 7, 10 and 15. On the last day, drills were also performed fron 25 yards. The drills and their reasons were very well explained: the why was the question, with the fix to the problem as the focus. While this was not a beginners class, it was explained in a way I'm which a shooter of any skill level could understand.
Aaron has a great deal of personal shooting skill, and is able to demonstrate the drills in exactly the time frame he wishes to demo the drill nearly every time. When he does have an issue with the drill, he is open to the fact that we are all human and we can't do it right every single time. This took the pressure off to some degree, helping me remember that the goal is improvement, not perfection.
If you have an opportunity to train with Aaron Cowan, I highly recommend it. You can find his courses at: sagedynamics.org/
