Sound suppressor are all the rage right now, and for good reason. Protecting our ears is an important thing to do, as we cannot heal hearing, only add a hearing aid. Once the hearing is gone, it's gone. Whether you are looking at range use or hunting, a good sound suppressor can help you keep what you have.
There are other factors as well, such as hunting success. Often, game animals cannot tell where the shot came from when it is suppressed, and therefore do not know the direction of the danger. This can keep them in place long enough to have someone else fire a shot on an animal or even give you a follow up shot.
For recreational shooters, having the noise muffled makes it easier to carry conversations, limit blast from the muzzle, and are just a fun time. There are few things more fun that shooting a suppressed 22 at a steel plate. It will make grown men giggle.
Another training factor is for the AR-15 crowd. When shooting these rifles, I will have earmuffs on. When I bring the gun up to my cheek, I will often bump the earmuffs so that the seal is open, negating the ear protection completely. With a sound suppressor, I only wear earplugs and the suppressor takes care of the rest.
Sound suppressor are not magic. They don't make a magnum caliber sound like a whisper. But they can do enough to help you enjoy your experience more, as well as offering you the opportunity to hear this world for a longer period of time. Hour hearing is important. Take care of it.
Best safe, be well.
